Controls diagnostics and troubleshooting

PLC fault finding & industrial controls diagnostics

Intermittent machine stops, PLC alarms, network faults or unexplained behaviour? Start with a structured review of the actual symptom, controller diagnostics and machine sequence rather than swapping parts blindly.

Cambridgeshire & surrounding counties for agreed site work; UK-wide remote engineering support where practical. Every project is reviewed for scope, access, safety and availability before acceptance.

Faults we investigate

Troubleshooting aimed at finding a reproducible cause and a sensible repair route.

PLC alarms and recurring stops

CPU states, diagnostic buffers, I/O transitions, timers, interlocks and machine sequencing.

Communications and drives

PROFINET, PROFIBUS and other supported industrial network faults, drive trips and signal or feedback problems.

Machine control and sensor faults

Electrical signals, field devices, HMI commands and PLC logic interactions reviewed against the observed machine behaviour.

A safe, structured diagnostic approach

Live controls work must follow site isolation, authorisation and machine-safety procedures.

Define the symptom

Machine model, fault frequency, operator steps, PLC/HMI messages and what changed before the problem started.

Review available evidence

Read-only diagnostics, available project backups, alarm history, photographs and electrical schematics where appropriate.

Agree corrective work

Recommend targeted checks, repair or an agreed code modification, with controlled testing and documented handover.

Common questions

Can you diagnose a PLC fault remotely?

Often the first stage can be remote if usable fault logs, project files or screenshots exist. Some issues require onsite inspection and measurements.

Will you force outputs or bypass machine safety to prove a fault?

No. Any testing or changes need a safe, authorised method consistent with the machine risk assessment and site procedures.

What PLCs can you support?

Project-specific support may use Siemens TIA Portal / STEP 7, Omron Sysmac Studio / CX-One, Mitsubishi GX Works2 / GX Works3 and Rockwell Studio 5000. It depends on the actual controller, software version, project files and access.

Need engineering support?

Send the machine type, PLC or HMI model, project scope and any drawings or fault information. We'll review the requirements before agreeing work.
