PLC obsolescence & lifecycle dates

When does your PLC become obsolete? Search Siemens SIMATIC, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi MELSEC and Omron controllers by family or part number. See manufacturer-announced last-order dates, production changes and repair periods — plus what they mean for your plant.

Manufacturer links on every record. We distinguish exact confirmed dates from dates that have not been published.

Legacy PLC & CNC guides

Check discontinued controllers, manufacturer references and available sourcing options.

Upcoming PLC end-of-life milestones

Important deadlines for maintenance teams planning purchases, holding spares or migration work. Always check the exact manufacturer part number.

Lifecycle terms explained

A date labelled “discontinued” does not mean equipment stops working — or even that every repair service is gone.

Active

Manufacturer currently lists the exact product as active. Check its variant and series.

End-of-life announced

A future manufacturer milestone has been published; order and shipping dates may differ.

Spares only

New projects are no longer the intended use, but the OEM may supply spares for existing systems.

Discontinued

Product is no longer generally sold new. Repair and exchange may still exist for some SKUs.

Siemens lifecycle correction: PM410 means product cancellation / spares phase. PM490 means product discontinuation; PM500 means the end of the product lifecycle. PM490 and PM500 must not be combined as if they were the same status. Rockwell “End of Life” often refers to a future discontinuation date, not an expired repair service.

Find your PLC family

Search exact identifiers such as 1747-L552, 6ES7, CJ2M-CPU31 or Q06UDEH. Model-level status can differ within a family.

Scope: This is a curated reference of 15 evidence-backed records, not a complete catalogue of every PLC, module or variant. A family heading does not make every part number subject to the same dates. All sources were reviewed on 8 October 2026; notices can be revised without warning.

What should a maintenance manager do now?

1. Confirm exact hardware

Record CPU, rack, power supply, communications, I/O part numbers and firmware or hardware series.

2. Back up the controls

Keep PLC/HMI projects, parameters, licences and a tested recovery method — not just spare modules.

3. Plan critical stock

Use likelihood of failure, redundancy and procurement lead time to prioritise what to hold.

4. Plan the migration

Review network protocols, safety, I/O and software compatibility before choosing a replacement.

Frequently asked questions

Does discontinued mean my PLC will stop working?

No. Lifecycle notices cover manufacturer ordering or support, not the operation of an installed controller. Keep a tested backup, verified programme and recovery plan.

Can I still buy a Siemens S7-300 PLC?

Siemens lists S7-300 and ET 200M as spares-only (PM410) from October 2025. Availability varies by exact 6ES7 order number; the PM490 stage planned from October 2033 is not the same as complete end of support.

Is the Mitsubishi Q series discontinued in 2026?

Only the Universal model QCPU part numbers in bulletin FA-A-0418-A have the September/October 2026 deadlines. Other Q modules have different notices, including a later 2029 programme.

What is the difference between an end-of-order and end-of-repair date?

End-of-order is the deadline to order new manufacturer parts. Production may continue to fill orders; repair services and spares can continue afterwards. Always check each of these dates separately.

Can Automation Outlet help with an obsolete controller?

Yes. Send the exact PLC or module part number for spares sourcing. We also assess selective outright purchases and managed consignment for surplus industrial automation stock.

How reliable are these lifecycle dates?

These entries were reviewed against linked manufacturer information on 8 October 2026. They are a planning guide, not a warranty of availability or technical interchangeability. Check the exact catalogue number and local maker notice before purchasing or redesigning.
