How consignment works

STEP 01

Send the stock

Upload a spreadsheet, add a few part numbers or send photos. We first identify what is genuinely worth marketing.

STEP 02

We review the market

AO checks realistic resale values, demand and likely selling times rather than relying on optimistic asking prices.

STEP 03

Agree the arrangement

We confirm the stock, listing approach and seller share before anything is marketed.

STEP 04

AO markets it

We handle listings, buyer enquiries and negotiation. Suitable stock can remain at your premises while it is for sale.

STEP 05

Get paid

When cleared buyer funds are received, the seller is paid their agreed share. Our standard seller share is 80% of net sale proceeds.

Why use consignment?

An outright trade purchase has to leave enough margin for testing, storage, selling fees, warranty risk and slow-moving stock. Consignment removes much of that upfront resale risk, so suitable equipment can often target a stronger seller return.

It works particularly well for genuine industrial automation stock with identifiable part numbers: PLCs, HMIs, drives, servo equipment, safety hardware, I/O, power supplies and obsolete spares.

Not every item is suitable. We would rather decline weak or extremely slow-moving stock than fill your consignment list with equipment that is unlikely to sell.

03 Your details

Standard AO consignment: seller receives 80% of net sale proceeds and Automation Outlet receives 20%. Any unusual third-party costs or different terms are agreed before listing.

Simple commercial terms

The exact scope is agreed before listings go live.

OWNERSHIP

You retain ownership

The stock remains yours until it sells. Seller-held stock can stay at your premises where practical.

COMMISSION

Standard 80 / 20 split

The seller receives 80% of net sale proceeds and Automation Outlet receives 20%. Any unavoidable third-party costs are agreed in advance.

PAYMENT

Paid after cleared funds

Seller payment is made after cleared buyer funds are received, within up to 10 business days. This allows for payment-provider settlement, buyer issues and transaction checks where applicable.

FULFILMENT

Ship within 2 business days

For seller-held stock, dispatch is expected within 2 business days of sale unless a different timescale is agreed in advance. AO can arrange a carrier where agreed.

LISTING PERIOD

30-day rolling exclusivity

Our standard arrangement uses a 30-day rolling exclusive marketing period so AO is not being undercut while actively selling the stock.

Common questions

Do I have to send the stock to Automation Outlet?

Not necessarily. For suitable consignments, the stock can remain with you and ship directly to the buyer or via an agreed AO carrier once sold.

Can I send a spreadsheet instead of entering every item?

Yes. Upload an existing Excel, CSV or PDF list. A rough list is fine as long as part numbers and quantities can be identified.

What if I also want a cash offer?

Use our Sell to us page instead. We can compare an immediate trade purchase with managed resale when both routes make commercial sense.

Does every item get listed?

No. AO reviews demand, resale value and likely selling time first. We focus on stock with a realistic route to a buyer.
